Papers of Chester S. Ricker, 1900-1958 (bulk 1914-1951).

The collection contains materials related to Ricker's work as a technical automotive writer and his patents. Correspondence also covers his work with numerous racing and timing events. There are official reports, timing cards, scoring sheets pertaining to the Indianapolis 500 and other racing and timing events. Photographs related to technical articles on timing and racing events, a 1949 personal journal, automotive military handbooks and scrapbooks of clippings of automobile races, plus one scrapbook on the Waukesha Motor Co. of Wisconsin are also included.

Chief timer and scorer for the Indianapolis 500. Born in Cochituate, Mass. on May 30, 1888, he was also director of timing and scoring for the American Automobile Association. His vocation was as a technical automotive writer. He patented the photometer, an automobile headlight fixture and was president of Day-Nite, Inc. which manufactured the product.
